Beginning in May 2007, I start recording new and old songs using GarageBand software on a salvaged eMac. This is my Almost Doesn't Count YouTube video; more music can be found here.
I have been noticing small areas of peeling paint on the addition that was completed in 2005. It's probably due to the sealant left out over the horizontal flashing, so during the summer of 2009, I build new scaffolding (with the old scaffold boards) and apply new sealant and paint over all horizontal joints. Sure hope this works.
In June of 2009, after finishing the addition repainting, I take a rest on the hammock given to me on my 50th birthday. I built the hammock stand out of left-over 2x6 scaffolding boards during the summer of 2008.
I had written numerous drafts of a structures text to use with my Structural Elements class at Cornell. These became the basis for a book that was published by Butterworth-Heinemann (Elsevier) in Dec. 2009, with an official copyright date of 2010.
I point out code compliance problems with Cornell's proposed Milstein Hall (OMA, Rem Koolhaas) in this blog post, Dec. 2008 (other posts linked here). Beginning in 2010, I document the construction of Milstein Hall with a series of informal videos (wearing hard hat and safety googles, shown here in May 2011).
We rent an apartment in Paris and stay there for about two weeks in August 2010, taking a few short side trips to examine some notable examples of modern architecture.
While on a sabbatical leave, we visit Rob in Maastricht, where he takes this picture of me; we also visit other cities in Belgium and the Netherlands (especially Amsterdam, where we rent an apartment for 5 days), Nov. 2011.
I turn sixty on May 6, 2012, and mark the occasion by dyeing my hair: I do so to visually and metaphorically reenact the end of youth and the descent into old age. Gray hair will emerge at the base of my scalp over the next several months, like a time-lapse film of dark clouds forming over the sky. This video captures the unscripted reactions of family members.
