The Rock Company uses special equipment to tape and spackle the joint between wall and ceiling.
L-beads are used to terminate the drywall on all four sides of the windows (left); the first of three layers of spackling compound is in place (right).

Another view from the mezzanine (left); the studio space is visible from stair #2 (right) on a snowy December day. One small 1500 watt heater is keeping the entire studio space warm, pending the installation of the direct-vent gas furnace.
We do a lot of driving in search of the perfect flooring for the studio and mezzanine, Finally, we find a close-out deal on 600 square feet of Italian porcelain tile in Syracuse. We pick up all 1400 pounds in two vehicles, and barely make it home in an early December snowstorm. Shown stacked in the downstairs family room are 39 pieces of 3'x5' 1/2"-thick cement board underlayment for the tile (left); and lots of thin-set mortar and latex additive for the cement board and tile.

I make some more sketches of stair #3 (the outside steel stair connecting the mezzanine with the roof deck), and meet with a potential fabricator. The stair is designed as a light-weight truss consisting of 1-1/2" square tubular sections and wire mesh infill panels. I will then fabricate the stringers and treads from pressure-treated lumber. One stringer will be fastened directly to the house; the other will rest on the clip angles shown in the right-hand sketch. All metal will be unpolished stainless steel.
