Now that the roof is on, we can complete the concrete work: a polyethylene vapor retarder and welded wire mesh are placed over gravel (left); the concrete is placed the old-fashioned way -- using wheelbarrows (right).

About half the concrete has been brought into the first-floor space.

Once all the concrete has been deposited, the surface is smoothed, first by hand, and then by machine.

Two days after the pour, I frame the first-floor partitions separating the entry from the other room. "Sole plates" are fastened to the concrete slab with special masonry screws.

Most of the electrical work is complete: this view shows the various circuits and coaxial cable heading towards the basement where they will be connected to a new panel box.
