Fall 2021
Jonathan Ochshorn
Issued: Sept. 20, 2021
Due: Nov. 15, 2021
In general terms, the in-class presentation will be PowerPoint- or PDF-enabled, and will be relatively informal. A copy of the presentation is required to be turned in, but no formal paper is needed. Images or video clips can be screen-captured, downloaded, or scanned; there is no requirement for original drawings.
Students presenting on the same day can choose to either present independently or to coordinate their presentations to any degree that they desire, including jointly preparing the "double" presentation.
Students with a preferred topic, or a "team" of two students with a preferred class session, may email the instructor no later than Sept. 27, 2021 indicating their preference (including, optionally, a second choice). Depending upon the responses, the instructor will then make all assignments. Students may not get their first choices, or even their second choices, if certain topics are in high demand. Students are free to exchange their assigned days and topics (as long as all involved in the switch agree) and should notify the instructor if and when this happens.
All in-class presentation files are due Monday, Nov. 15, with the actual presentation dates as follows:
week 13
Mon., Nov. 15 Historic urban conflagrations (causes and aftermath)
Wed., Nov. 17: Wildfires
week 14
Mon., Nov. 22: Highrise buildings
Wed., Nov. 24: Thanksgiving break, no class
week 15
Mon., Nov. 29: Historic fire disasters and resulting code changes
